After nearly 60 years of Sunday services in Kurnell, St James Anglican Church will be having its final Sunday 10.00am worship on April the 28th.
St James is not closing down- far from it. A new service will kick off just 6 days later on May 4th. The church's service is being transferred to a new time on Saturday evenings.
Rev Peter De Salis says that they are all very excited about this new venture which they've been planning for the last couple of years.
"It will be a contemporary, family service for all ages, starting at 5 p.m, followed by a community meal at 6 p.m "Rev De Salis said
"One thing that will not change is our focus on Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour "
Rev Josh Murphy is the newly appointed full time Youth, Children and Family minister, both at St James and at St Andrews, Cronulla. Josh will be heading up the children's program and leading singing on the guitar.
Everyone will come together for the first part of the service. The kids will then go out for a separate teaching time and come back for the last part of the service, then everybody will eat together. For the first Saturday meeting a barbie will be held for all the congregation.
Josh is already teaching Scripture at Kurnell Primary School. He and his wife, Brittany, have 3 children - Samuel (6) Lillian (3) and Angus (1).
They have recently moved from Nowra Anglican where Josh was the Youth and Children's minister and a school chaplain. Josh loves meeting new people, he is a solid Swans supporter and keen on all sports and is pretty handy at shooting hoops. Josh loves meeting new people.
With some aesthetic changes including a new fence outside to keep kids safe; rearranging the pews inside to accommodate more comfortable seating; and a shift from printed orders of service and prayer books to a big screen, the church is keen to make this gathering relevant and accessible to everyone in the Kurnell community.
Everyone is invited to come along and check out the new look community church.
