Local soccer clubs Forest Rangers and Lugarno Football Club will benefit from $500,000 in Federal Government funding for upgrades at Gannons Park.
Federal Member of Banks, David Coleman met with club representatives at Gannons Park recently to announce the funding.
Under the Community Sporting Infrastructure grant program, St George Football Association has been awarded $500, 000 which will be used to provide a new amenities building for local sporting teams.
Mr Coleman said that both local sporting clubs and residents will benefit from these upgrades.
"Local sporting teams like Forest Rangers and Lugarno Football Club, as well as other park
users, will benefit greatly from new change rooms and facilities," Mr Coleman said.
"It is really important that the St George area has accessible and modern sporting facilities," he said. "I'm really glad to see this project go ahead."
St George Football Association chief executive officer, Craig Kiely, has thanked Mr Coleman and the Federal Government for their commitment to improving local grassroots sporting facilities.
"These are much-needed upgrades that will provide modern, compliant and accessible
facilities for local players, coaches, referees, supporters and club volunteers," Mr Kiely said.
"The amenities building forms part of an extensive program of works at Gannons Park and will include duel canteens, storage rooms, gender neutral change rooms, referees room, medical room, public amenities and a covered BBQ areas."
The new amenities building is anticipated to be ready for use by the Clubs for the 2020 Winter season.
