Can Georges River Council achieve zero carbon emissions.
The council is to investigate the potential of working towards zero carbon emissions by 2050 along with several other targets.
It will prepare a report to investigate the impact of potential sustainability targets on Council, in response to a Notice of Motion raised by Councillor Warren Tegg at the Council Meeting on Tuesday 23 April 2019.
Targets proposed for adoption by Council include 100 per cent renewable energy by 2025, net zero emissions by 2030 and zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The report will investigate the method of quantifying the council's current emissions and proposed methods for reducing/offsetting emissions.
It will look at an indicative timeframe with key performance indicators for stated targets.
The report will also investigate any financial implications associated with achieving the targets and the likely financial support and expert assistance Council may need to achieve set targets.
The report is an important step for Council in moving towards a greener future and playing a bigger role in helping to combat the global issue of climate change, a council spokesman said.
