Georges River Council will install a "Rainbow" crossing in Forest Road, Hurstville for Pride month in June.
Sydney City Council installed a Rainbow crossing at Taylor Square earlier this year in support for the LGBTIQ community replacing an earlier one that was removed in 2013.
Georges River Mayor Kevin Greene announced the local initiative in a Mayoral Minute at the April 23 council meeting as a way of acknowledging the diversity of the Georges River community.
"Georges River Council is proud of the diverse Georges River community, and regularly celebrate our rich history and culture," Cr Greene said.
"Recently Council hosted a Harmony Day event which celebrated inclusiveness, respect and belonging, regardless of cultural or linguistic background.
"For upcoming Pride month in June, council will continue to support and celebrate the LGBTQI+ community through a range of events and installation of a "Rainbow" crossing in Forest Road, Hurstville.
"The Eurovision Song Contest celebrates tolerance and inclusion through song and performance.
"Georges River Council is pleased to host, for the first time, a live broadcast of the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest at 5am on Sunday, May 19.
"This free community event promotes unity and tolerance. I invite my fellow Councillors to support our richly diverse communities and attend these inclusive events."
