A woman and man have been charged after a police officer was seriously assaulted in Cronulla overnight.
About 12.10am on Sunday, a 24-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were asked to leave a licenced hotel on the Kingsway, Cronulla.
After being removed from the hotel, the pair remained on scene and became involved in an altercation with security, who called police.
A female sergeant from Sutherland Police Area Command attended and attempted to arrest the woman.
Whilst attempting to make the arrest, she was allegedly kicked in the face by the woman, sustaining a serious injury to her left eye.
The woman was then arrested with assistance from other police. The man was also arrested.
The pair were taken to Sutherland Police Station where the woman was charged with assault police causing actual bodily harm, excluded person remain in vicinity of licensed premises and resist arrest.
She was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today.
The man was charged with excluded person remain in vicinity of licensed premises, hinder police in execution of duty and offensive behaviour in public place.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on May 16.
The sergeant was treated at Sutherland Hospital for the eye injury and later released. She now is awaiting the results of scans.
