Is there a better-known tale in the entire world than that of the poor mistreated lass whose fairy godmother arranges for her to attend a ball where she meets a handsome price that falls in love with her as she flees when the clock strikes midnight?
This May join Cinderella, her friends and not so friendly stepsisters as they take you back to the magical world of one of the most loved fairy tales.
Engadine Musical Society will bring Rodgers and Hammerstein's, Cinderella to the Engadine Community Centre from May 17 to 26.
Musical Society president, Sue Bunt, says the show was the perfect choice for the company's May 2019 production.
''We wanted to do a show that parents and grandparents could share with their families and Cinderella seemed the perfect fit," Ms Bunt said.
The show features music by Rodgers and Hammerstein (Sound of Music and Oklahoma) and great songs such as In My Own Little Corner, Step Sister's Lament and Ten Minutes Ago.
Director Michael Astill says the production aims to capture the tale's key message.
''Cinderella is one of the stories that kept us daydreaming throughout our childhood and made us not want to settle down for anything less than happiness," Mr Astill said.
"And most importantly, it taught us to never give up on our dreams.''
Lauren Lofberg (Cinderella) leads a talented cast who all do a remarkable job bring the characters of this time-honoured tale in a modern way.
The ultimate in romantic wish-fulfilment fantasy, the story of Cinderella dates back at least to 16th century Germany, although its first written account has been attributed to the 17th century's French fairy-tale author, Charles Perrault.
The story is the classic fairy tale and the Engadine Musical Society production gives it new life through the musical direction of Dean Turner and choreography by Natalie Hennessey.
Cinderella will be performed at the Engadine Community Centre from May 17 to 26.
