Following on from the success of Summer Housing's Rockdale apartments, the non-profit organisation has committed to deliver a further 10 apartments for people with disability, this time in Deicorp's South Village project at Kirrawee.
Established in 2017, Summer Housing's mission is to expand the range and scale of diverse housing options for people with disability living in, or at risk of admission to, residential aged care, particularly younger people
The model provides customised highly accessible apartments with onsite support within larger, mainstream apartment developments.
Each of the single level apartments are custom designed and wheelchair friendly, with a high focus on assistive technology to promote independence and security.
The units meet High Physical Support design requirements under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). They also have structural provisions for ceiling hoists.
Summer Housing chief executive Dan McLennan says the aim is to provide housing options for people with disability which promote independence, inclusion and ultimately better lives for people with disability.
"Off the back of the success of our Rockdale apartments we are thrilled to be delivering our second project in Sydney - this time in Sutherland Shire," he said.
"South Village ticked all of boxes - a great retail offering within the development including supermarkets, cafes and restaurants, close proximity to Kirrawee train station and a lovely setting in the heart of the Kirrawee."
Peter Neale of Deicorp says the company is committed to creating inclusive and connected communities.
"We are partnering with Summer Housing to help deliver a solution for young people living with a disability," he said.
"We have previously developed similar apartments in other projects and this partnership aligns strongly with Deicorp's values."
The Rockdale apartments are located within TH Piety's View development and will be completing next month are nearly fully leased with only one apartment remaining. The South Village apartments will also be completing in late July.
