Corey Norman will undergo surgery today after St George Illawarra confirmed their five-eighth had suffered a broken cheekbone.
It is unknown how long the Dragons will be without Norman, though he will definitely be unavailable for St George Illawarra's Magic Round clash in Brisbane against the New Zealand Warriors on Saturday night.
Norman set up a try for Mikaele Ravalawa in the 51st minute of the Dragons' 32-18 loss to Parramatta on Sunday.
But in completing a slick catch and pass, Eels winger Maiko Sivo clashed heads with Norman, breaking Norman's cheekbone.
Norman was to undergo surgery on Tuesday having gone for scans and a specialist review on Monday.
Tyson Frizell is expected to be fit to play the Warriors after suffering a facial injury against the Eels.
Frizell copped a poke in the eye from teammate Blake Lawrie while making a tackle 10 minutes into the game.
The representative forward left the field for a head injury assessment before returning to the action. But Frizell was unable to play on after half-time with his vision greatly impaired.
With St George Illawarra already missing Gareth Widdop to his potentially season-ending shoulder injury, Korbin Sims out with a broken arm and Jack de Belin's unavailability, Dragons coach Paul McGregor was deflated at the prospect of losing Norman for what he estimated to be at least four to six weeks.
"With Gareth out and Jack not available and Korbin out and now Tyson and Corey out it's not great," McGregor said.
McGregor indicated young star Jai Field was likely to come in to the halves alongside Ben Hunt to replace Norman at five-eighth against the Warriors.
"Jai's been our 18th man the last four or five weeks so he's available. He's been playing some good footy in reserve grade."
Field has made three NRL appearances for the Dragons in each of the last two seasons, with the 21-year-old last wearing the red V in their semi-final loss to South Sydney last year.
