SLC Aquadot swimmer, Jess Madden will by vying for International success in August when she joins the Australian youth swimming team competing at the World Junior Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Madden secured her spot for the event in swimming a cool 8:45.00 for the 800 meters 15/16 freestyle at the Australian Age Swimming Championships in April. The swim, a personal best for Madden, also saw her earn a silver medal.
Swimming NSW coaching director Jon Shaw was full of praise for Madden's efforts on the night.
"Jessica (Jess) Madden had the chance (during the championships) to swim herself onto the Junior Worlds Team ... talk about a little pressure! She needed to be in the top 2 of the event plus post a fast time," Shaw said.
"Jessica took on the challenge and swam an 8.61 sec PB (personal best) in a time of 8:45.00...a time that was fast enough to get a plane ticket to the Junior World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Shaw said that all NSW Swimmers including Jess must be congratulated on their efforts in competing one of the hardest age competitions in the world.
Madden, who attends Port Hacking High in Miranda was ecstatic with her achievements to date, however looked to improve on her result when she represents her nation later this year.
"My goal is to reach the top 8 of my event and continue improving so I can one day compete in the Olympics," Madden said.
"I would like to qualify for Paris 2024".
In preparation for the event Madden will continue to train her usual schedule of 13 training sessions a week as well as attend separate training events and seminars run by Swimming Australia.
The FINA World Junior Swimming Championships 2019 will take place in Budapest, Hungary from August 20-25.
