Parents will benefit from an upcoming information session that aims to help families with child protection within the community.
Former NSW Police inspector and member of the child abuse and sex crimes squad, Anthony Macklin, will host a seminar at Doltone House, Sylvania Waters on May 30.
It is an opportunity for parents and carers to equip themselves with knowledge and advice to protect children from sexual predators and online grooming.
The two-hour seminar will include how to navigate the myths, methods and motivations of sex offenders and learn how they are targeting children in Australia, cyber safety rules, video gaming, phone and social media messaging, how to notice and become aware of potential abusers through their behaviour and tactics, and examples of common patterns used by offenders.
The seminar is aimed at parents, grandparents, family members, carers, teachers and community staff.
Mr Macklin was a specialist sex offence investigator working on high profile sexual assaults, organised paedophile rings and kidnappings.
He also formed part of the Child Exploitation Internet Unit (a sub branch of the Sex Crimes Squad), was involved in the arrest of numerous child sex offenders and has helped other NSW detectives with sexual assault cases.
He worked as lecturer on the NSW Police Investigators Course and taught NSW Police Youth Liaison and School Liaison officers about online child safety.
He oversaw the creation of the first permanent Local Area Command Child Protection Registration compliance team in NSW.
Additionally, he was a dodyguard to the Prime Minister and other international heads of state.
It is at 7pm. Tickets are $59.
