RE ''Fisheries hook offenders over illegal fish hauls'' (Leader, May 22).
Fine them hard, confiscate their gear and take their licenses. So many of us practice catch and release these days, to what avail if the babies get taken .... makes me so angry.
Brendon Green
They need penalise the parasites that fish along Scarborough Park and the surrounding ponds and patrol that area. The ponds have become a free for all taking all the baby fish to be used as bait. For years they have been getting away with it. It's disgusting.
Julie Marie
Majority of those fish come into the estuary to breed and the fry stay until they are old enough to venture out. So sad.
Olivia
It happens all the time at Bare Island too. Better legislation needed for sure, and help with appropriate reinforcement.
Erika Suggett
About bloody time! I have informed Maritime of "anglers" targeting undersized fish, pointed them out, and told they will not take action. So, with long rods and tiny hooks they pilfer undersized fish with impunity.
David McVicar
I've seen people fishing off the bridges all the time and anything they catch they throw into there buckets been happening for years.
Adam Walton
Good to hear, I hope the serious offenders get clobbered with substantial court fines too!
