Natasha Gonzalez of 1K Words was humbled and honoured to be named Business Person of the Year at the St George Local Business Awards presentation night.

"I'm overwhelmed at being acknowledged for my hard work throughout the year, especially while balancing motherhood as well," Ms Gonzalez said.

1K Words is an online retail business, based in Penshurst, that creates unique and personalised framed canvas prints made out of words.

"I was utterly surprised, to be honest," Ms Gonzalez said of her win. "When I saw the large number of high calibre professionals nominated, I knew it was nice to be mentioned alongside them, let alone to take out the award."

Ms Gonzalez said she believed her passion for the work and her one-on-one communication with customers was the reason for her success.

"There is nothing more satisfying than creating a meaningful canvas for someone that has been grieving a loved one, or simply wants to create something special for an anniversary or birthday," she said.

Ms Gonzalez said the win would not have been possible without the support of her husband Mark.

"I'd also like to thank my friends and family who have always shown their continuous love and support over the last four years.

"Running a business from home can be many things - scary, overwhelming, frustrating, disheartening - but they have been the ones to put a smile on our faces."
