Horizon Church marked its 70th anniversary and milestone year of providing ministry and community aid to Sutherland Shire.
To mark the occasion hundreds of congregation members gathered at the white church building behind Sutherland Council for the festivities this month.
Senior pastors Brad and Alison Bonhomme honoured those before them, and recalled the church's early beginnings.
Founded by Rev Norm Armstrong in 1949, the church originally known as Sutherland AOG has come a long way since its early days in the Sutherland School of Arts.
Beginning with six dedicated people, the church now reaches thousands each week with a message of hope and love.
Horizon Church has worked in partnership within the community for seven decades, serving refuges, engaging in bush and beach regeneration, offering youth skill and resilience programs (for which it was awarded 'Community Group of the Year 2019').
The church has also mobilised hundreds of volunteers to undertake special projects such as the renovation of youth emergency accommodation facilities, the upgrade of other non-profit community organisation facilities including Sylvanvale Sutherland Centre and building a new basketball court for Kirinari Indigenous Youth Hostel.
It meets on Sunday at 9.30am and 5.30pm at 7 Stapleton Ave, Sutherland.
Youth and children's programs are also held weekly.
