A strong front has blasted through Sydney on Monday, bringing a much colder and drier airmass across the city.
While the actual temperature may read in the high-teens, the strength of the wind and dryness of the air will make it feel substantially colder.
The mercury is forecast to peak below 20 degrees for only the second time so far this month, which is fairly unusual given that the long term average maximum temperature for May is 19.5 degrees.
A severe weather warning for damaging winds is in place for the Sydney area, with wind gusts above 90km/h possible - mainly confined to exposed coastal and elevated parts.
There is a gale warning for closed waters and a strong wind warning for Sydney's coast continues into Tuesday.
Thursday is predicted to get even colder, with a top of 18 degrees.
