Sutherland Croquet Club has trumped its inaugural NSW Championship third division team victory last year to take home the sport's most prestigious honor becoming State Division 1 champions last week.
The Division 1 Pennants Carnival took place last week in Tempe and Sutherland where teams from around the state competed over four cold wintry days to find out the state's premier croquet players.
In a mixed competition, the team of John Bennett, Ros Johnstone, John Eddes, David Woods and Ron Johnstone competed over four gruelling 10 hour days against teams from NSW and ACT.
The team dropped only one match (out of seven) and emerged as champions after a tense final match against Royal Sydney Croquet Club to clinch the title.
Club member and committee member Lynne Graham said the victory was without a doubt a monumental moment in the club's history.
"Winning Division 1 was undoubtedly our club's finest team achievement in our history," Graham said.
"I had one person tell me how in the 37 years they have been at the club they have never won this competition.
"We definitely look forward to celebrating this over a few drinks with the trophy at our end of season dinner later this year."
