Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene officially announced the recipients at a special event on June 5 at Mortdale Community Centre, which saw organisations receive funding ranging from $770 up to $25,000.
"I'm very pleased to announce the recipients of this latest round of funding, which will provide a significant boost for many local organisations that do tremendous work in our local community," Councillor Greene said.
"This brings the total Community Grant funding for this financial year to $400,000.
"In this latest round, Council received 70 applications for funding, totalling $673,842 of requests under two categories, Connected Communities - Major Programs and Capacity Building Grants - Community Development.
"Under the Connected Communities grant, local community groups were able to apply for up to $25,000 in funding to be delivered over two years, for programs that help promote social cohesion in our local area.
"Seven community organisations received funding under this category, with $25,000 being awarded to Kingsway Community Care's Moving Forward Program, which assists people to transition from homelessness, and keeps them connected with friends, family and support networks," Cr Greene said.
"Community groups could also apply for up to $10,000 in funding under Council's Capacity Building Grants, designed to assist in the delivery of community projects and programs.
"There were a total of 40 successful organisations in this category that received funding, with 1st Oatley Bay Sea Scouts being awarded $8,000 to fund a watercraft replacement that will provide safe, accredited and affordable outdoor activities to benefit many young locals," he said.
"I would like to congratulate each of the community organisations that were successful, and thank all the organisations who submitted applications.
"The interest we received in this round is a testament to the positive impact the grants are having in the Georges River area, and I look forward to seeing the benefits of this funding come to fruition through the many great programs and initiatives being rolled out."
