The Starliners are a Sutherland Shire band who perform a tribute show entitled "Girl Power from the 60s".
It's a two-hour cabaret style show that accurately conveys the vibe, both aurally and visually, of the top female acts of the 60s.
The three talented singers use outstanding vocal harmony, great choreography, and several authentic costumes of that era to give a sense of time an place.
The girls are backed by four very experienced musicians playing the hits of female acts such as the Supremes, Aretha Franklin, Lulu, The Crystals, Dusty Springfield, Lesley Gore and many more.
The Starliners have made appearances at clubs both large and small throughout Sydney including Penrith Panthers, Rooty Hill RSL, Bankstown Sports, Canterbury Leagues, Souths Juniors and The Royal Easter Show.
They recently appeared at Club Kirrawee to a packed house.
Rob Askew, The Starliners musical director, said the band was a family affair.
''I am the bassist, my daughter Melanie is one of our singers, as is Rachel who is the daughter of the show's compere Wayne Thomas,'' Rob said. ''My brother is our standby guitarist and most of our girls' authentic 60s costumes were designed and made by Christine who is married to the bassist!''
The Starliners next appearance will be at Club Central Menai on Saturday, June 29, where the band will launch its second CD of classic 60s hits recorded and produced at a Como home.
