Maroney, 44, is the most highly decorated long-distance swimmer in Australian history, showing her prowess in 1999 when she swam from Mexico to Cuba at a total distance of 200 kilometres in 38 hours - the world's longest open water swim that no one else has replicated since.
She hopes to follow in the footsteps of Olympic swimmer Shane Gould who took out the title of Sole Survivor last year.
Also representing the Shire, of NRL fame, Ettingshausen, 53, also known at ET - one of the most iconic names in the sport's recent history. He's renowned for being one of the best NRL players of time, having played 328 games for the Sharks across 18 years. These days, the dad to four daughters keeps busy with his fishing show, 'Escape With ET'.
They will be pitted against everyday Aussies in the world's toughest game of endurance and tactic.
After being dominated by the champions last season, thecontenders are hungry to prove Aussie underdogs have what it takes.
