A luxury Cronulla townhouse development, which was built by a local family firm, has been judged the best in Australia.
The project, South Cove at 40 Trevellyan Street, won the townhouse / villa development category at the 2019 Housing Industry Association (HIA) awards after earlier taking out the state award.
Each of the four townhouses includes three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a plunge pool.
The project was the work of Cronulla-based TDV Developments, which was started 30 years ago by Tom Voudouris, a bricklayer at the time, and his wife Debbie.
The couple built their own home in Menai and have been building houses, townhouses and units in Sutherland Shire and St George since.
Debbie, an interior designer, has worked on all their projects, while their daughter Natasha (interior designer) and son Jonathon (civil engineer and project manager) are also involved in the business.
The award was presented at a HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards gala dinner in Perth.
The judges said the Cronulla development bridged the gap between waterfront beach house and luxury penthouse, with each of the family-sized townhouses enjoying a private pool or water feature and a lush tropical garden.
The judges were impressed with "the thoughtful design and construction, noting the excellent use of orientation with high-set ceilings and bright areas".
"Externally, natural stone walls envelope the entry to each home, while the underground basement has a discreet entry to the side of the development."
Jonathon Voudouris said the family was "very dedicated and passionate about building quality".
"The four of us do all the work with the help of a carpenter or labourer," he said.
"Dad and I are the only full-time employees."
The development, which was completed in July 2017, was featured in the Leader as a Domain House of the Week, marketed by Highland Property Agents Cronulla.
"Flanked by the beach on one side and the bay on the other, this boutique selection of architecturally designed residences offers an opulent lifestyle in idyllic South Cronulla with luxurious living," the report said.
"No compromises have been made with these four luxury homes now on offer for sale.
"Each residence features a private lift, a plunge pool and a garden courtyard.
