Sandringham's Donny Rogers will compete in the Challenge Roth Triathlon, the Super Bowl of Ultra Distance Triathlon, in Germany next month.
Don's brother Mat, the former rugby union and rugby league international, has recruited him to challenge himself and help raise money and awareness for Mat and his wife Chloe's charity 4asdkids.
4asdkids was established in 2008 after their son Max was diagnosed as autistic. In that time the charity has raised more than $2million enabling them to help many children and their families.
Roth is a grueling 3.8km swim, 180km ride and 42km marathon run and would normally need 12 months preparation for professional athletes. Don has had only four months to prepare and with zero experience at endurance sports has endured an intense schedule.
"We train remotely on the computer on a platform called Zwift and I can ride with Mat or anyone else in real time. Yesterday I did a 200km, seven-hour ride through London," Don said.
"I'm lucky Phil and Francis at Southside Physio give me a couple of sessions a week and I'm digitally coached by Dave Tabernackle from SBR Triathlon in QLD."
4asdkids provides autistic children with early intervention schooling helping each individual child with special needs education to develop life skills. This type of support costs $50,000 per year.
The Cronulla Sharks Have Heart program have donated a signed 2019 jersey to be raffled.
