The desire to keep supporting a much-loved venue was reason enough for Sutherland Shire Fleetwood Nicks, to keep the melodies going in their beloved hometown.
The tribute band, which is having an upcoming show at Club Heathcote on July 26, performs all across Sydney.
The band comprises a blend of Fleetwood Mac's iconic music catalogue, and a taste of Stevie Nicks solo hits.
It's a nostalgic and entertaining tribute to a band whose music and presence has lasted through the decades and whose songs are forever imprinted in fans' minds.
Leading singers are Shire girls, Mel Green, who by day is a community nurse from Sutherland Hospital, and Bernadette Wallace, a veterinary nurse from Gymea Vet Clinic.
Green has appeared regularly at Nulla Nulla Cafe at Cronulla as a soloist and duo act with Berni Wallace and regularly appears at the Sutherland United Services club with trio, Next Best Thing.
They also work together in 60s tribute band Girl Power from the 60s - presented by the Starliners, which has appeared at various clubs.
"We pride ourselves on trying to emulate the original sound of Fleetwood Mac so that when the audience closes their eyes they can take a trip down memory lane," Green said.
The future of Club Heathcote, officially called Heathcote Services and Citizens Club, was in doubt 15 months ago when it went into voluntary administration.
But it stayed afloat since December last year, and after some profitable trade, the external administration ended.
Membership increased and Shire bands like Fleetwood Nicks were thrilled.
"It gives us particular pleasure to be playing at Club Heathcote, which has been a part of my life," Green said.
"I live in Heathcote and have attended functions at this club over the years until they were forced to close for months.
"They are amazing at supporting live music in the Shire. I was overjoyed that they decided to have Fleetwood Nicks appear at the club, and many other bands. It is a credit to them to be supporting live music in Shire even after they have been through some hard times. We are appearing at Club Heathcote just as Fleetwood Mac tours Australia again. We want to keep this little club going and get as many people there as possible."
