Not many 12-year-olds have the opportunity to represent their country.
But for Sam Levick and Lachlan Vella, that dream is about to become a reality in what is shaping as a busy couple of months.
Sam and Lachlan have been chosen in the 18-player Team Australia squad to play in the WBSC under-12s World Cup in Taiwan next month.
The roster was finalised following the 2019 Australian Little League Championship in Lismore earlier this month, where Sam and Lachlan helped Cronulla win the national title.
Cronulla's win will see them represent Australia at the Little League World Series in the US in August.
Before that, Sam and Lachlan will travel to Tainan for the World Cup to be played from July 26 to August 4, with Australia drawn in group B alongside three-time defending champions USA, Mexico, Korea, Venezuela and Italy.
The 2019 edition of the under-12s World Cup will also be the first at the almost $190 million Tainan Asia Pacific Stadium.
The under-12s baseball World Cup is the only global sporting event to feature national teams at this age group. Australia will look to improve on their 2-6 record at the 2017 event, with the Aussies ranked seventh for the tournament.
Team Australian general manager Glenn Williams said it had been a difficult task trimming the final roster.
"There are so many quality young players spread all the way across the country," Williams said.
"We rely heavily on advice from state associations and the respective Little League charters.
"We saw the players live in Lismore to make the final decisions. There was difficult decisions to make... this is probably the most difficult national team to select.
"It's an exciting event for all of the kids to take part in. [It is] something they will never forget and I am looking forward to seeing how they go at the event."
Sam is in year 7 at Inaburra High School and plays catcher for Giants Baseball.
The 12-year-old from Burraneer Bay credits San Francisco catcher Buster Posey as one of his sporting heroes and said he felt lucky to be sharing the next two adventures with his mate Lachlan.
Lachlan, a pitcher, follows the Chicago Cubs and dreams of attending college in the US and playing Major League Baseball.
The 12-year-old from Caringbah South attends Cronulla High School and plays for Cronulla Sharks Baseball.
