Sutherland slipped to their first defeat of the season against rivals Moorebank Liverpool to put a dampener on Back to Sutho Day celebrations on Saturday.
Sutho fell 2-1 on home turf with goals to Moorebank's Landon Morley and Troy Sutherland cancelling out Harry Roberts' goal for the hosts.
With both sides undefeated heading into the weekend and having played out a 3-3 draw in the opening round of the season, Sutherland had entered the match looking to close the gap to Moorebank at the top of the Sydney Premier Hockey League table.
But Moorebank's victory saw them extend their lead to six points at the summit, while Sutherland's defeat saw them slip to third place behind Norwest Strikers/Baulkham Hills.
With eight rounds to play it is Sutho's four draws that have hurt them the most having only been beaten once.
Sutho will look to bounce back when they take on the Strikers at Lidcombe on Saturday night.
