Bride wore wedding dress with special memories

It was three times a charm for bride Rochelle Simpson, who honoured the women in her family by wearing the same dress as her mother and grandmother on her own big day.

Rather than seeking the perfect off-the-rack dress for her wedding, Mrs Simpson was inspired by a family heirloom a little closer to home.

The newlywed from Caringbah frocked up in the dress previously worn by her mother Barb and grandmother Jean Phipps at their weddings.

Mrs Simpson married her partner Josh, in Bowral in April this year.

Although the dress wasn't identical as when it was originally made, it carried the same significance as it did when worn by her mum and nan.

"My dress was a third generation dress that was altered," she said.

"Grandma ended up being surprised with the final design and adored it."

"In a competitive wedding world we ended up spending including everything less than $40,000, highlighting that you don't need to blow your budget."

The heartwarming gesture didn't end there. In lieu of wedding favours, the couple aksed for donations to Water Aid and Beyond Blue.
