Penshurst Long Day Care has recently been rated as 'Exceeding Industry Standards' in Georges River Council's first early childhood assessment and rating for this year.
The Penshurst service caters for 40 children a day, servicing 62 families, and was measured against the new National Quality Standards through the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority.
The centre was assessed on seven quality areas: curriculum; children's health and safety; physical environment; staffing arrangements; relationships with children; partnerships with families and communities; and leadership and service management.
"We're incredibly pleased with this rating, as an Exceeding Industry Standards rating for Penshurst Long Day Care places it in the top 30 per cent of long day care centres in NSW," Georges River Councli mayor Keving Greene said.
"The identified quality areas aim to raise the standard of childcare centres nationwide, and by doing so make the Exceeding rating far more difficult to achieve, and ensure the curriculum is representative of each centres' families, community and culture.
"This service goes above and beyond to provide children with a sense of belonging to the community, and incorporates visits to Penshurst Library once a month, Ferndale Nursing Home, as well as trips to local parks and shops.
"The Children's Services Team has worked diligently to further improve the quality of care for children in the Georges River area, and I encourage anyone looking for high quality childcare to consider a Council-run service," Councillor Greene said.
