Bundeena will splash into colour for a community art show this month, with children front and centre at the exhibition.
Pupils from Bundeena Public School have been busy collaborating on a collection of artworks alongside the professionals, and now they are ready to be displayed.
The event, Art in the Park, is a P&C fundraising venture for the school, which will host the 30th annual art show on the weekend of July 27-28.
This year's theme is 101 NIGHTS, which lends inspiration from the great tale of Scheherazade & 1001 Nights - a legend among all lovers of art and storytelling.
Artworks, which were provided by Bundeena artist Laura Kneebone Challis, with the help of pupils and their brushes, will be auctioned.
Each epitomise Australian animals, which formed the inspiration. The pieces are titled with their Indigenous names, such as 'gawura' (whale), 'guma' (king parrot) and 'daringyan' (stingrays).
Pupils across all classes were given a section of a photograph, which they individually scaled up and transferred into cartridge paper squares using oil pastels. They then pooled their finished squares and matched them up together to form the whole picture. The whole process was designed to facilitate a sense of belonging to a class group as well as emphasising the important role each individual has in creating that identity.
The artworks are a celebration of native flora and fauna, landscapes and portraits.
It will be a weekend celebrating craftsmanship in the community of Bundeena and Maianbar. Also featuring original works, artists including Gary Shead and Bob Marchant.
There will also be free kids' workshops, live folk and jazz music, performances, coffee, juice and Gozleme, among other tasty delights.
Exhibition artworks include painting, drawing, photography and digital art, Indigenous artwork, sculpture, metal, timber and glass art. Children will also enjoy weaving, crafting Japanese wooden tools, henna tattoos, beeswax wraps, gumnut clay creatures and scroll painting.
Tickets: $30 includes exhibition entry, a meal and complimentary drink.
