St George Police Superintendent Julian Griffiths is to farewell the command this week, taking up a transfer position in south west Sydney.
Superintendent Griffiths has led St George at the helm, and before that, he was at Sutherland Police.
Friday, July 12, will be his final day at the Kogarah base, departing for his new position.
His transfer is one of about 10 movements and promotions made by the NSW Police executive team.
Superintendent Griffiths will retain the same title, but will head up a different command from next week, Monday, July 15.
"The position became available. On a personal level it's the end of seven years as superintendent in the central region," he said.
"It's a shame and I'm sad to be leaving because of the relationships I've forged with people and within the community.
"But it's a new door, a new challenge, and St George has a good template and a good structure in place."
Taking over his role, is Tony Cooke, from the State Crime Command, who fills his shoes as commander on August 5.
Bayside Council mayor Bill Saravinovski presented Superintendent Griffiths with a Certificate of Recognition at Wednesday night's council meeting, thanking him for his service to the Bayside community.
"When we heard he was moving on we were saddened but hopfully he will come back," Councillor Saravinovski said.
