From the quiet suburban streets of Bonnet Bay to the dusty backroads, Berni Hoareau will get behind the wheel to raise money for kids in need this year.
He is taking part in the 35th Variety Bryden's Lawyers B to B Bash, departing Bondi on July 28.
It's a 4300 kilometre adventure all the way to Port Douglas, in far north Queensland.
The event was inspired by businessman and philanthropist Dick Smith in 1985 when he gathered a group of mates and drove through the outback raising $250,000 in the first year. From this inaugural event a national bash was established.
Together the Variety Bashes have given more than 12,000 Aussies an outback experience like no other, travelling down dusty roads and over creek crossings.
Participants have visited more than 220 schools donating equipment including wheelchair accessible bubblers and playground equipment to help kids overcome barriers to reach their full potential.
Bash cars are required to be more than 30 years old.
"Visiting small schools wherethere are just three or four students always makes me think how lucky we are," Mr Hoareau said.
