A memorial service for the victims of the MH17 Malaysian Airlines Disaster will be hosted by the St Savvas of Kalymnos Orthodox Church at 316 Princes Highway, Banksia this Sunday.
The memorial mass will mark the the five-year anniversary of the downing of the MH17 Malaysian Airlines disaster by a Russian missile over the Ukraine where 298 people died including many Australians and over 80 children.
"We will have amongst our community members, local MPs and other dignitaries and also the Ukrainian Community and relatives of victims," Father Savas Pizanias said.
"With the Blessing of our Metropolitan Epiphanios in Kyiv, our Church will be conducting a Panihida, Trisagio (Memorial Service) at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, for all the Victims who perished.
"Our Church together with our Ukrainian Brethren would like to invite everyone to join us in prayers, as we commemorate the souls of the victims and loved ones of the MH17 Disaster.
"Tea, Coffee & sweets will be offered for all afterwards in our Hall.
"The memorial service will take place around 10.30 am. After the memorial service we will be doing the official opening and unveiling of our renovated amenities block which we completed with the assistance of a government community grant."
