Students from Lucas Heights Community School impressed at this year's Youthrock competition, taking out the crown at the grand final.
'Elliott Road', which includes two students from the Sutherland Shire school and two from Newtown Performing Arts, won the 2019 competition at Bankstown Sports Club.
YouthRock is a school-based, state-wide competition where bands from across NSW perform their original compositions, showcasing their talent, musicianship, stage presence and chemistry.
They follow an impressive history, with Aussie band Silverchair being among the previous winners.
Two of the band members, drummer Daniel Biber and Aiden Baghaw, are year 11 students studying accelerated HSC music.
Elliott Road formed five years ago in 2014 when the two founders of the band, Ethan Pastor and Daniel Biber were 11 years of age.
Fast forward to present day, and with two other band members that complete their sound, Aiden, and Teilo Lang, they are now a four-piece, playing mainly under the alternative rock genre with infused elements of psychedelia and space rock.
The band name was inspired by the name of the street where they practice, and where they fully formed as a band. They also play gigs at various venues across Sydney.
At Youthrock, their music was described by judges and fans as having a culmination of emotion and adrenaline, packing bombastic drums, swirling guitar effects, conflicting dynamics and catchy melodies into their set.
They are working on their forthcoming single, soon to be released on various music streaming services.
