Hard work and a clear focus on your goals are the keys to success, according to Peter Honey who was named Business Person of the Year at last week's Sutherland Shire Local Business Awards.
The director of Priority Plus Plumbing said his company had done a lot of work in the past 12 months on business culture and on their processes.
"That, coupled with the fact I have a great team, made me very proud to win," Mr Honey said.
"I feel like I have something to offer other businesses through all the personal development I have done and it's a privilege to be recognised within the community."
Mr Honey said he was "very surprised" to win, given the number of excellent nominees.
"There was a lot of great businesses there on the night, so this award could have gone to anyone," he said.
"The surprise on my beautiful wife's face and the members of my team that were there made it even more exciting. They are right beside me on a day-to-day basis so being recognised like that was a great honour."
The company takes part in the Local Business Awards every year and have had previous wins in their category.
Mr Honey said taking part was an "annual highlight" which gave him and his staff the chance to "stop and reflect on the year that was".

He said he recommended the business awards. "Getting involved with community events is great for you and the business," he said.
"If you win a category - no matter what it is - it's a great indicator that you are on the right path and it assures you to keep doing the things you are doing."
Mr Honey's team also really enjoyed the awards night. "We had a blast," he said. "The environment is terrific with everyone dressing up and relaxing.
"Celebration is very important for business and we must all stop to smell the roses, plus have a few beers, every now and then."
And the Business Person of the Year winner had one very special person to thank.
"My wife's support has been amazing and without it I know we couldn't have been as successful as we are today," Mr Honey said.
"Also my three great kids - Jake, Corey and Paige - and my entire team, including my business partner Con.
"They are so supportive and always know what needs to be done."
