Applications for Georges Council's Doing It Differently grants have opened offering financial support of up to $10,000 per project.
Doing It Differently supports projects and ideas that aim to promote health and wellbeing, create well connected communities and reduce the risk of loneliness and social isolation in the Georges River area.
Doing It Differently is the result of a new partnership between Georges River Council, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District Health Promotion Services (SESLHD HPS) and Calvary Health Care Kogarah.
Georges River Council mayor, Kevin Greene, said that the grants will enable Council to partner with the community to drive meaningful changes for the better in the Georges River area giving opportunities for people to connect, feel a sense of belonging, and develop new skills.
"The Georges River community is extremely active and passionate about the local area and by supporting community projects, we can ensure that those closest to the cause are able to implement social projects which have a positive impact on the lives of everyday people.
"If you have a great idea that promotes better health and wellbeing in our community, I strongly encourage you to submit an application for a Doing It Differently grant so that together, we can work to improve the quality of life and social connections in the Georges River area."
Doing It Differently uses a simple and collaborative application process and aims to build on the existing strengths of the community by using an Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach.
Julie Dixon, Director, Planning Population Health and Equity, SESLHD said the District is looking forward to supporting Georges River residents to improve social wellbeing, through this new partnership.
