Nominations have been invited for the 2020 Australia Day Awards, given by Sutherland Shire Council.
Residents have up until Friday, October 4, to nominate an outstanding person or community group.
There are three award categories.
The Citizen of the Year award recognises a shire resident "who has achieved the most distinguished performance and/or made the most outstanding contribution to the shire community during 2018/2019".
Residents who are 25 or younger up until Australia Day 2020 can be nominated for the Young Citizen of the Year award, while the third award is for an outstanding community group.
The 2019 winners winners were Bronwyn Afflick (Citizen of the Year), Hayden Charles (Young Citizen of the Year) and Horizon Youth (Community Group of the Year).
"These awards recognise members of our community for the positive difference they make to the lives of others," mayor Carmelo Pesce said.
"You can nominate a friend, neighbour or relative who gives their time generously, or you can nominate a local community group that collectively assists, organises or campaigns for the benefit of others.
"We have a caring and supportive community, with many people volunteering for charities, joining important community initiatives and striving to improve community services and facilities.
"The Sutherland Shire Australia Day Awards are a great opportunity for the council to recognise and reward these outstanding individuals and community groups."
