Ramsgate RSL Club has been announced as a finalist in the ClubsNSW 2019 'Clubs and Community Awards' for their outstanding community contribution.
More than 80 registered clubs from across NSW have been named as finalists in the industry's prestigious awards.
The Awards recognize the outstanding social contributions made by clubs in their local area and throughout the state.
Ramsgate RSL has been recognized for their ongoing support of local indigenous communities and in particular their partnership with 'The Settlement Neighbourhood Centre' who assists at risk youth in the Redfern/Waterloo area.
Ramsgate RSL Commercial Manager, Nicole Heinrich said members of the Ramsgate RSL team recently attended a cultural camp to Alice Springs and Uluru with 14 young people between the age of 15-18, to help them explore their own identity and culture whilst connecting with their Indigenous culture through cultural exchange with some of the most traditional communities in Australia.
"Here at Ramsgate RSL we recognized that we lacked understanding of indigenous culture and wanted to proactively improve our knowledge and awareness, and as a club become more culturally sensitive towards indigenous people" Nicole said.
"Our partnership with the Settlement has already seen immense benefits not only in providing support and guidance for the youth of our community, but also in developing the knowledge of our own team about Australia's rich indigenous culture."
Winners will be announced at the Clubs and Community Awards gala dinner to be held
at the International Convention Centre, Sydney on November 2.
