Council acquisition of part of a home site will expand, and provide greater access to, a picturesque, little reserve at Miranda.
Kiah Place Reserve is located on Ewey Creek, which runs through Yowie Gully.
The nature reserve addition is on the other side of the train line from where large apartment blocks are being built in the Pinnacle Street high-rise precinct.
Sutherland Shire Council will use developer contributions to buy 90 square metres of the 1800 square metre property at 170 Karimbla Road.
"Acquisition of this property will assist council in achieving a contiguous open space corridor along Ewey Creek for use by the community," said a staff recommendation, which was endorsed by the council.
A report said the purchase satisfied objectives of the local environmental plan (LEP) and development contribution plan.
"Council has been attempting to acquire the land for some time and, in response to council's correspondence, the owner has invited council to acquire the property," the report said.
"Council arranged an independent valuation and, based on this, made an offer to purchase the property, subject to council resolution.
"The owner is in agreement with the valuation."
