Australia's newest elite junior golf tournament was launched on Monday, with the shire preparing to host the event next month.
The 2019 Junior 6s Invitational will be played at Cronulla Golf Club over October 7 and 8.
Harrison Crowe was part of the launch at Cronulla, with the Bexley junior to compete against a host of other Australian junior stars.
Cassie Porter, one of Queensland's brightest junior female talents, will also play and joined Crowe at Monday's launch. Reigning Australian junior champions Elvis Smylie and Hye Park will also compete for the inaugural titles.
The field is limited to 36 girls and 36 boys, with Jack Newton Junior Golf and Golf NSW partnering with the event.
Players will vie for multiple PGA Tour of Australasia and ALPG Tour exemptions. The 36-hole winners will be presented with the Norm Porter Memorial Trophy, with overall tournament champions earning automatic entry into the 2019 men's and women's NSW Open. The boys winner will also be eligible to play the Gippsland Super 6 Tour event.
The unique format will see competitors play 36 holes of strokeplay on the Monday and Tuesday before the top eight girls and boys advance to 6s matchplay on Tuesday afternoon. The tournament is a hybrid of the Victorian Open and World Super 6 Perth formats.
Cronulla junior and former PGA Tour player-turned broadcaster Ewan Porter came up with the concept and is the tournament's ambassador.
"It takes a lot more than a single person's aspirations to create any golf tournament, let alone the unique nature of the Junior 6s Invitational," Porter said.
"The support shown from all of our industry and corporate partners has ensured that we have built a foundation from which the potential for this tournament knows no bounds."
Crowe will be among the favourites with the 17-year-old enjoying another strong year after he was again chosen to represent both NSW boys and men's teams at this year's Australian Interstate Series.
He was also part of Adam Scott's team for the second annual Major Champions Invitational in Florida in March, with his selection coming on the back of an incredible performance at the Australian Amateur Championship in Melbourne.
Crowe also finally won the elusive Bonville Champions Trophy in December before finishing second in the Victoria Junior Masters and helping NSW win the Jack Newton Junior Golf State of Origin tournament.
