The much anticipated re-opening of the new Kogarah RSL Club has been delayed.
The new club will be housed on the ground-floor of the new $83 million Veridian residential development at 254 Railway Parade, Kogarah.
It was due to open in August but a "soft" opening has now been put back to mid-September with an official opening possibly not until next month.
"Due to delays in construction, we don't have a date," a spokesman for the club told the Leader.
"We are looking to open next month or at the end of this month.
"We will have a soft opening and just open the doors without any fanfare so that we can bed down the operations."
The new-look Kogarah RSL Club, to be known as Kogarah Clubhouse, will offer members and guests an experience "unlike anything Sydney's south has seen before", the club's website states.
The original 65-year-old club was demolished in 2017 to make way for the Veridian project.
When the club does finally re-open it will attempt to make a serious push into food.
Jonathan Berry, ex-group chef of the Boathouse Group, has joined the project.
It will feature a number of dining options under the one roof including a slick new Chinese restaurant.
When the Pearl opens at the club the promise is cutting-edge design, a red and black colour palette and District 8 chef Stevenson Su in the kitchen.
Pearl will push a "more modern 'yum-cha' concept".
As well as the Chinese restaurant, there will be Blake Street Kitchen, which has street access, serving modern Australian fare and the Clubhouse Bar, with more of a tapas-style menu.
Berry says a lot of thought has gone into the design.
"The concept is you won't know you are in an RSL," Berry said. "It's a great venue."
The Kogarah Clubhouse website says the dining component of the club will be "unlike anything Sydney's south has seen before".
"Kogarah Clubhouse offers a great mix of contemporary entertainment and dining options," the website states.
"The Pearl Asian Eatery takes the form of a fun yum cha experience, Blake Street Kitchen will be your go-to coffee, lunch and date night destination and The Clubhouse Bar will be the perfect spot for catch ups with friends over a beer or cocktail.
"From dusk 'til dawn; you can look forward to experiencing a brand-new social hub where people can connect and create new memories together."
The re-invention of the Kogarah RSL Club began in 2015 when the club submitted plans to the then Kogarah Council to totally redevelop its site in partnership with Bluestone Capital Ventures.
Kogarah RSL Club general manager Grant Amer told the Leader at the time financial stress had forced the club to look at other options to stay afloat and members had been consulted at every step.
''Basically, this will save the club,'' Mr Amer said in 2015.
Demolition of the 65-year-old Kogarah RSL Club started in June 2017. The two-tower, 12-storey development with 220 apartments included a 2000sqm new home for the club at ground level.
