Tradies is seeking approval for a 24-hour gym, run by Anytime Fitness, as part of a major redevelopment of its Caringbah club.
The development application (DA) said the gym would take up the entire first floor and there would be a creche, catering for gym users and club patrons, on the second floor.
At present, Anytime Fitness operates a 24-hour gym on Kingsway, Caringbah, about 200 metres from Tradies in Banksia Road.
The proposed development would breathe new life into the former Caringbah RSL Club, which appears to have under-performed since it was taken over by Tradies in 2009.
However, the proposal may not be welcomed by residents of a new, nine-storey apartment block next to the club.
The popular Caringbah Highfield hotel and Ugly Pizza operation is on the other side of the club.
The DA said external and internal walls throughout the building would be demolished "to improve the functionality and amenity of spaces to better serve its users and staff".
"This will include a 24-hour gym, run by Anytime Fitness, on the first floor which will be internally accessed from the Tradies club," the DA said.
"The proposal will also include external works to the existing facade, which will significantly improve visual quality of the existing building.
"The proposal will maintain the existing building footprint and provide a minor increase to the gross floor area (GFA) of approximately 28 square metres."
The DA said the building was already non-compliant in respect of GFA.
The DA said the first-floor gym would be open plan and would include a pram bay, change room, bathrooms, reception desk and office.
The existing balcony would be solely used by gym patrons, and would be available from 8am to 10.30pm.
The second floor would include a bistro dining area and new kitchen, as well as a creche, providing a child minding service for club and Anytime Fitness patrons.
The supervised creche would include a buzzer system to alert parents if needed.
The third floor would remain a function centre.
