The start of a flowering season could not come at a better time for Bayside Men's Shed, which has been working with Bayside Community Gardens on a buzzing new gift.
The men's shed has provided a 'bee hotel', which members built to help boost growth in the gardens.
They have crafted a native home for bees in the Lance Studdert Reserve at Kyeemagh, which is near the former home of Brighton Fisho's.
The hive aims to encourage pollination of vegetables, fruit and native plants in the garden and surrounding area, and increase bird population.
There are more than 20 dedicated members, who often enjoy lunch or a coffee and tea break under the chemical-free garden trees.
Fred Poole was the project lead and designer of the hive. One of the oldest members of the shed is 90 years of age, and an active upholsterer at the shed.
