Shire Music Theatre's 45 year history of bringing quality entertainment to the Sutherland Shire continues, with their latest production, Little Women, opening at the Sutherland Memorial Arts Theatre on October 11.
The classic much loved story of Little Women was written by Louisa May Alcott in 1869 as a semi autobiographical novel and debuted as a musical on Broadway in 2005.
The musical closely replicates the book and focuses on the lives of the four March sisters - traditional Meg, wild aspiring writer Jo, timid Beth and romantic Amy.
Set in Massachussets in the Civil War, the story follows the sisters as they come of age and find their place in a world.
Dealing with sibling rivalry, sexism, love, romance and death, their story still resonates strongly with families of today.
Emma Taviani, Jessica Farrell, Katie Morgan, Ruby Hawken and Chiz Watson star as the March Family.
The musical numbers are sensitive and touching and include the well known Astonishing and the catchy Off to Massachusetts.
Taviani leads this cast, as the feisty Jo March, and brings an incredible wealth of talent to the stage, to bring to life this complicated character.
Her exceptional vocal ability ensures that the stunning sultry ballad, Astonishing, will not leave a dry eye in the house.
Marmee March (played by Sutherland local, Chiz Watson) is the backbone of this family, standing strong in the face of adversity and her touching rendition of Here Alone is sure to endear her to the audience.
Directed by Como local, Meg Day and assisted by Brad Facey (Asst Director), Michael Astill (Choreographer) and Adam Foster (Musical Director) this very experienced production team have strived to stay true to this iconic story and to allow this highly talented cast of performers to shine.
Little Women's season at the Sutherland Memorial Arts Theatre runs from Friday, October 11 until Sunday, October 20 with nine performances, including four matinees.
Adult tickets are $35 and Concession/child $30.
