I always read the Your View section of the Leader as it reflects what residents are thinking about current local events.
Over the years a few letters stand out because they speak the writer's truth straight from the heart.
Kate Andrew's letter (Your View, September 4) is one such letter and I hope it struck a chord with many readers.
In response to the August 13 article on the reopening and ramping-up of the desalination plants' capacity, Kate reminds us that we are not using the current, limited, window of opportunity to stop a catastrophic 3 degrees of global warming, quickly enough.
The majority of our political leaders don't seem to take climate change seriously. The ordinary citizen is all too often complicit. Human hubris is not serving mankind or any of the other lifeforms on earth.
Fortunately those who will bear more of the brunt of inaction are speaking up.
High school students went on strike last Friday, September 20 in the hope of making responsible adults be more responsible.
They know the time for lip service is over.
