Yowie Bay Public School is in the running for the top national award in Wakakirri, Australia's largest performing arts event for schools.
The school competed at the primary finals for the Sydney region last week and has been announced as one of the region's top performers and a nominee for the 'Story of the Year' award.
Yowie Bay also took out the 'best adapted story' award for a riveting performance where two children are transported into a virtual world where they must help Mario and Luigi fight off an evil virus.
"The cast take us on a fantastical journey and not only knock out the virus but they give a knockout performance," veteran entertainer Wayne Scott Kermond said.
More than 280 schools and 20,000 students across the nation performed in Wakakirri this year.
Every school develops an original story-dance, a 3-7 minute production telling a story through dance and drama.
Other finalists include Gymea Bay Public School and Blakehurst Public School (best blockbuster story award).
