Border sporting icon Lauren Jackson continues to be honoured for her stellar basketball journey.

Just a matter of weeks after she was announced as a Basketball NSW Hall of Fame legend, the four-time Olympic medallist will next month join the NSW Hall of Champions.

Jackson, who took on the senior coaching role of the Bandits women in the NBL1 competition this season, is regarded by many as the greatest female basketballer in the world.

Five other sporting stars will join Jackson in the elite group including Bradley Clyde (rugby league), John Holt (surf life saving), Brent Livermore (Hockey), Cheryl Salisbury (football) and Lisa Sthalekar (cricket), while former Australian Test cricket captain, the late Richie Benaud, will be elevated to legend status.

Since 1979, 377 men and women representing 55 sports have been added to the NSW Hall of Champions roll of honour.
