Engadine Musical Society is bringing the music of ABBA to life at the Engadine Community Centre from October 11 to 27.
A jukebox musical written by English playwright, Catherine Johnson, Mamma Mia uses some of ABBA's greatest hits to tell the story of 20-year-old, Sophie Sheridan who is preparing to marry her fiancé Sky.
An essential part of Sophie's perfect wedding, is that her father will walk her down the aisle - but there's a catch. She's not sure who her father is. Determined to find him, Sophie invites her three potential dads (Harry, Sam and Bill) to her wedding and the drama begins!
Mamma Mia premiered in 1999 on the West End and has since toured to more than 50 countries and been adapted into a film starring Meryl Streep and Colin Firth.
The show features some of ABBA's most popular hits such as Super Trouper, Dancing Queen, Knowing Me, Knowing You, Take a Chance on Me, and Money, Money, Money.
It was the chance to get to play ABBA's music, that attracted musical director, Val Hull, to the show.
''When you hear ABBA music its hard not to tap your feet and sing along. Everyone has grown up listening to these tunes and they just instantly make you feel better as soon as you hear them," Hull said.
Director, Sue Bunt, believes the shows success lies in its magical love story as well as the music.
''People are initially drawn to the songs, but as soon as the show begins they fall instantly in love with the characters and their story.''
Choreographer Becky Savage says the show promises to capture the feel good vibe of ABBA's hits and thinks audiences will be dancing in their seats.
''The musical really allows you to capture two eras of music and dance - the funky 70/80's moves and the pop grooves of the late 90's early 2000's."
The show features a wealth of talent including Cronulla locals, Taylor Thomson as Sophie and Andrew Fabris as Sky.
Mamma Mia, Engadine Community Centre from October 11 to October 27.
