I posted a parcel at the Sylvania Post Office on Monday, September 30 to a PO Box at Bellingen with a correct destination postcode of 2454 clearly shown on the printed address label and in a large print.
I was told that the delivery would be two days later on Wednesday. I advised the recipient to expect the parcel on that day.
It wasn't until the Tuesday that I noticed that the postal clerk had incorrectly typed the destination postcode as 2545.
Checking the tracking number on the receipt online noted the delivery was expected on Wednesday, October 2.
That didn't occur and the notification was changed to "delayed delivery".
It still wasn't delivered on the Thursday or Friday and now the notification states that it will be delivered on Tuesday, October 8.
Apparently, Aust Post uses the postcode shown on the receipt as the destination so only when the parcel arrives at the post office for that postcode is the parcel label checked and the error found, then sent on to the correct destination postcode.
No wonder so many people are turning away from using Australia Post and using private delivery companies which are quicker and less expensive than the $18.50 charged by Aust Post for this bungle!
