Even the most tech-savvy can fall victim to a cleverly designed scam.
Two free seminars held at Kogarah and Miranda will benefit residents who may not think twice when answering a strange phone call or opening an unusual email.
They will be hosted by St George Bank, with scam experts on site to empower people on how to identify and avoid scams.
It is part of Scam Awareness and Protection Seminars, being rolled out across communities in NSW.
The State of Scams report reveals one in 10 people were affected by a scam in the past 12 months, losing an average of $12,000.
The Kogarah Scam Awareness and Protection Seminar is on October 15 and will be held at St George League Club, Prince Edward Room 2, 124 Princes Highway, at 10.30am.
The Miranda seminar is on October 30 at Gymea Miranda Bowling and Sports Club, Greens Room, 691 Kingsway at 10.30am.
