Memories of the old primary school yard will unite at Oatley Hotel this month for what former pupils hope will be quite the reunion turnout.
Organisers are hopeful a community callout will bring more ex-students to the table for a trip into the past.
Amanda Brown, 61, of Caringbah is getting together a reunion of those who 50 years ago were in the sixth class at the school in 1969.
Come midday on October 26, she and other former pupils, including her friend Jan from Kindergarten, would like to connect to those who once shared their playground.
It wasn't until Mortdale Public held its 125th anniversary, that the idea to have another meeting was born.
"I always thought we might try to get together as a school year," Mrs Brown said.
"We've used social media to try to find people, and we formed a Facebook group where we post photos.
"There's a lot of people we still haven't found. Some have passed away, and others have moved so it's been a bit of a challenge to track people down."
Describing her old educational stomping ground as a "friendly school", Mrs Brown recalls many fond highlights of days gone by.
"When I started, the playground was separated into boys and girls, infants and primary," she said.
"We all kept in our little groups. We stuck to our own.
"We had great teachers.
"We learnt to write with slope cards and ink, which didn't last long, and we did a lot of Australian history, which I loved, learning about the convicts, settlers and heroes who made Australia. There doesn't seem to be much of that in schools these days from what I hear from my grandkids."
Play time was all about the latest rage - jumping, prancing and simply having a good time.
"We used to play elastics and skip," she said.
"I got my sporting prowess at that school.
"There was also a circus nearby so it was exciting to see elephants and camels in the paddock next to the school. You wouldn't see something like that today.
"We never had a canteen so we were allowed to leave school and walk over to the shops to get our lunch - hot chips and a slice of watermelon for five cents."
