Update
A witness has reportedly told police the driver of a truck involved in a fatal head-on crash with a small sedan at Kurnell was not to blame.
The witness said the car crossed to the wrong side of Captain Cook Drive, 9 News reported.
7 News also reported it was believed the car veered to the wrong side of the road.
Skid marks on the road indicated the truck driver desperately tried to avoid the crash.
Both the distraught truck driver and shocked witness were taken to St George Hospital.
The man who died was the only occupant of the vehicle.

A man has died in a crash at Kurnell on Thursday afternoon.
At about 12.50pm, emergency services were called to Captain Cook Drive following reports a car and truck collided head-on.
The sole occupant of the car died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.
The male driver of the truck was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for shock and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Another witness to the incident was also taken to hospital.
Officers from Sutherland Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
