A man has died after losing his footing and falling into the path of a freight train at Rockdale station.
Emergency services were called to the station about 7pm on Thursday.
A police spokesman said the man, 54, alighted from a train at Rockdale Railway Station and moved to the end of the platform, standing close to the edge.
"The man has lost his footing and fallen onto the train tracks, into the path of an oncoming freight train," he said.
"Officers from St George Area Command, Police Transport and NSW Ambulance paramedics attended.
"CPR was performed on the man however efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. He died at the scene.
"Train services were delayed for approximately half an hour.
"A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner."
