There are few modern day visual artists who have captured global audiences like Banksy.
The street artist creates socially and politically relevant pieces that regularly gain exposure across the world.
Now, Sydneysiders have a chance to see a collection of his works in the Entertainment Quarter. The Art of Banksy was curated by Banksy's former manager and photographer Steve Lazarides, who told the Leader locals wouldn't want to miss seeing the exhibition.
"It's a superb opportunity to see some of the most seminal artworks produced by Banksy from the period of 2000-2009, spanning all the key subject matters and disciplines," he said.
"From spray-painted canvases, sculptures, right through to a major oil painting Bacchus at the Seaside that was exhibited alongside the recently auctioned piece Devolved Parliament.
"We hope that people, whether a Banksy fan or just intrigued about his work, will be able to view some of the most significant works of Banksy's career as well as gaining some behind-the-scenes stories to explain how these works helped make him the most popular artist on the planet."
The touring collection has previously visited major world cities like Toronto, Miami, Tel Aviv, Auckland and Melbourne. Thousands of people have already visited the exhibition since it opened at the Entertainment Quarter in September.
The Art of Banksy features 80 original, privately-owned Banksy works. Mr Lazarides said a lot of thought went into deciding which pieces would be included in the travelling collection.
"We wanted to give visitors a really good insight into the artist's working practice and the behind-the-scenes journey of how the artworks on display were originally produced, a how he sold them in the early, and now legendary, self-staged exhibitions such as Santa's Ghetto and Turf War," he said.
"As well as this, we wanted to make sure the most recognisable images of his career such as the Girl and Balloon and Love Is in the Air were on show for all to see."
Mr Lavarides said visiting the collection was a surefire way for Sydneysiders to understand why Banksy has been so beloved for so many years.
